In PE, Coach White and Coach Jones are teaching ballroom dancing to our students. A couple of weeks ago I watched from the bleachers as each of our our 5th grade boys confidently and politely asked a girl to dance, then led her on to the floor. Our girls learned how to accept a dance politely and how to follow the steps in hold. When we first started teaching ballroom dance on Wednesdays, of course there were some giggles, but now the young men and women in 5th grade are so proud of their dancing skills, and I imagine that they’ll be very glad to have had this experience when they get older!
